About the Department of Mathematical Modeling
and Artificial Intelligence
The department was established in 1968. It was originally called the Department of Computer Science and was established at the Kharkiv Aviation Institute as a centre for the training of the intellectual elite in the field of aerospace technology to ensure the strategic priority in space exploration. About every employee of the Department of Informatics, it can be said that to some degree he is the pupil of an outstanding scientist whose name is well known to us and abroad – academician Vladimir Logvinovich Rwachev. The staff and graduates of the department protected 14 doctoral and more than 30 candidate dissertations.
The head of the department is Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Chukhraj Andrey Grigorievich.
The teaching staff of the department
Teachers of the department are studying in Germany, South Korea and the USA. We work with the leading aerospace and power engineering firms of Ukraine and Russia, as well as with firms and scientific centres of far abroad on a grant and contract basis, for example:
- Scientific and Technological Centre. (Ukraine) ;
- Nuovo Pignone S.p.A. (GE Power Systems. Oil &Gas) (Florence, Italy);
- Center for Advanced Systems Development of the Doosan Heavy Industries;
- Construction Co., Ltd. (Daejeon, Republic of Korea);
- China Aviation Industry (Zhuzhou, People’s Republic of China) and other.
The department employs more than 20 teachers, including 7 professors and 6 associate professors. The teaching staff has prepared more than 50 teaching and methodological aids, monographs and three textbooks have been published.
Conditions train staff
The training of bachelors and masters is carried out in the specialties «Applied Mathematics» (specializations “Artificial Intelligence”, “Mathematical and Computer Modeling”, and «Computer Sciences» (specialization “Intelligent Systems and Technologies”).
The department has a graduate school. Thanks to the high intellectual potential of the Department, which is held by professors and professors, we provide universal training to the most up-to-date understanding of the requirements, Software, Information Systems and information technology (IS/IT).
The department has the necessary technical base: 3 computer classes with modern software with 40 seats (all available computers are connected to a local network, which is connected to the university’s corporate network and has a permanent connection to the world Internet network), a teaching and learning room with necessary for the performance of study tasks, research laboratory.
Students, starting from junior courses, are given the opportunity to participate in State budget and company works, which are carried out by the staff of the department. Our students take an active part in the Olympiads, scientific and technical seminars and conferences, as well as in the social and sporting life of the University (there is a large athletic park, 2 sports halls, swimming pool on the campus of the University). Many of the students are awarded various prestigious scholarships. For excellent studies and active community work, many students were transferred from the contract form to the budget. All those who wish are provided with a dormitory.
The basic principles of working with students are high professionalism, performance in combination with individual approach and tolerance – which are followed by teachers of our department for many years now provide our pupils with a demand in a highly competitive labour market.
