General Information

The school behind, a certificate of secondary education in the hands, the only question ahead is: where to go and who to study for. Which direction to
choose: technical, humanitarian, or economic? The answer to these questions is sometimes very difficult to decide immediately. If you are interested in IT technologies, new developments in the world of informatics, as well as the application of information technologies to solving problems encountered in everyday life, you should take a closer look at the specialties of the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Artificial Intelligence. The Department of Department of Mathematical Modeling and Artificial Intelligence was created in 1998. It is based on the Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics (1968). The department was originally established at the Kharkiv Aviation Institute as a center for the training of the intellectual elite in the field of aerospace technology in order to ensure the strategic priority in space exploration.

The head of the department of the Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Assistant Professor is Cartashov Alexey Viktorovich. The department has a Doctor of Technical Sciences, 10 Ph.D.’s, 6 Senior Lecturers, and 5 Assistant Lecturers. The staff of the department has long-term experience in training highly qualified specialists in such specialties as «Applied mathematics» and «Informatics». Professors of the Department take part in scientific internships and are invited to give lectures in Germany, South Korea, and China.

Modern life, production, health care, and other areas of human activity are inconceivable today without information technologies: each of the spheres needs the processing of a huge amount of information, as well as information services. No modern person would deny the enormous role of information technology in his life. Moreover, there is hardly any area today where information technology is not directly or indirectly involved. There are also serious production processes that support human activity, and the whole range of services, and even recreation – each segment works thanks to information technologies.

Therefore, the main goal of the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Artificial Intelligence is to provide students with knowledge in the field of informatization and computerization of socio-economic, production, and management processes. The faculty gives students universal training in modeling and computer research of objects of complex technology in space and on Earth.

The department possesses the necessary technical base: 5 computer classes with modern software for 72 seats, a study room with necessary literature for carrying out study tasks, research laboratory. Studying in the department is possible both on budget form and on contract. Students are transferred from the contract form to the budget form for excellent studies and active community work.

Students of the department actively participate in the social life of the faculty, and also take part in various olympiads, seminars, and scientific and technical conferences. Many of the students are scholarship holders of various prestigious scholarships. All students who wish to study are provided with a dormitory.

The Department of Mathematical Modeling and Artificial Intelligence works with leading aerospace and power engineering firms of Ukraine and cooperates in the educational sphere with foreign partners such as Dresden TechnicalUniversity and Zittau University (Germany), Kuyavsko-Pomorskaya Higher School in Bydgoszcz, and Nikolay Copernicz University (Poland), Linnaeus University, in the field of improvement of the programming training of our students – with the company Plarium.

Upon graduation from the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Artificial Intelligence, students become highly qualified specialists in the specialties «Social informatics», «Applied mathematics», «Mathematical and computer modeling», and work:

  • managers of firms that provide mathematical and software support for systems for forecasting the development of economic enterprises, decision-making procedures in complex economic systems, development of calculation methods and coding by them;
  • programmers and testers of software complexes;
  • large and small enterprises with different forms of ownership, commercial banks, and tax inspections, brokerage firms, and exchanges requiring forecasting and analytical information on the future state of systems;
  • heads of economics, scientific and technical project departments;
  • computer software and application developers;
  • directors of companies that develop information systems software;
  • heads of computer and information technology departments of firms;
  • systems analysts and developers of information-analytical systems.
